Bronchitis
Bronchitis is one of the most common diseases of the lungs. the basic definition of bronchitis is the inflammation of the bronchi in your lungs. Inflammation is the occurrence of swelling or tenderness in a tissue, in this case the inner lining of the bronchi. this inflammation could be caused by a number things. it is usually a continuation of the common cold, just with more severe symptoms. therefore, the causes are the same as what result in a cold; exposure, chilling, malnutrition, fatigue, etc. Some different types of causes may include tobacco smoke intake, mineral dusts, and acid fumes (ex. factories). If bronchitis isn't treated properly, it could result in pneumonia, an even more severe disease of the lungs. Pneumonia is relatively similar to bronchitis, but this time the inflammation reaches the actual lung tissue. This disease is generally caught by people who's immune system is weaker than most, since typically one would stop the inflammation before it gets too serious.
The effects of bronchitis on the lungs and the overall well-being of the person aren't as bad as one would think. The inflammation is caused by foreign bacteria invading the bronchi and causing an unpleasant reaction with the bacteria already living there. As any other tissue that gets inflamed, the bronchi becomes less elastic and not useful. therefore there is some difficulty in breathing, but that depends on the intensity of the infection. People with bronchitis usually develop a barking cough that helps get rid of the foreign bacteria and clear the air passageway. Bronchitis could also be chronic, or repetitive. For some people with chronic bronchitis, their mucous membranes are just constantly swollen, and the smallest particle could cause a reaction.
